Life at the Corner
Life at the Corner
A suspended urban narrative.
“Life at the Corner” (2003–2005) unfolds as a complex visual chronicle in which architecture, memory, and human presence intertwine. In this large-scale work (84 × 125 cm), Elena Fontanesi transforms an urban corner into a theatre of layered stories.
Buildings, façades, and fragments of lived space overlap within a composition rich in rhythm and detail. The perspective is not strictly architectural but emotional: planes shift, colours vibrate, and the scene becomes at once place and metaphor. The hand-painted sage-green border, flecked with gold, acts as a threshold — framing the narrative without containing it.
An original artwork that calls for slow observation — a painting to be read as much as to be seen.

Artwork Description
Space is constructed emotionally rather than geometrically: planes shift, volumes overlap, and chromatic tensions animate the surface. The painted sage-green border with golden speckling functions as a liminal device — visually delimiting the work while conceptually extending its narrative beyond the frame.
The painting rewards prolonged observation, gradually revealing relationships between detail, structure, and memory.
