Midnight green

Midnight green

Nocturnal horizons and layered silence.

“Verde Notte” (2025) is an original work in which Elena Fontanesi explores darkness not as absence, but as depth. Horizontal strata of forest green, olive, and shadowed earth tones unfold across the 50 × 70 cm canvas, evoking a suspended landscape — perhaps a nocturnal sea, perhaps a field at dusk.

Subtle flashes of white and pale blue emerge along the lower register like distant reflections or quiet waves, introducing a restrained luminosity into the composition. The painting breathes in silence, structured yet fluid, contemplative yet alive.

A unique piece, completed with a minimal black frame that intensifies its depth and frames the work with quiet precision.

Chromatic stratification defines the structure of the work.

The composition unfolds through horizontal glazing and layered tonal transitions, moving from the dense opacity of the upper section to a more luminous, material surface below. The brushwork remains controlled yet fluid, creating a gradual atmospheric descent.

The pale gestures of white are not incidental accents but energetic fulcrums that counterbalance the gravity of the dark greens, suggesting water, wind, or the quiet resonance of night vegetation.
